Michael Miller MD, FACC, FAHA
Dr. Miller is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. He is also Director of the Center of Preventive Cardiology at the University Of Maryland Medical Center. The focus of Dr. Miller’s investigative career is conducting molecular and translational research related to lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in an attempt to better understand the relationship between diet, fasting and postprandial triglycerides, HDL cholesterol and risk of coronary heart disease.
He is past president of the American Society of Preventive Cardiology (2005), chaired the AHA scientific statement, “Triglycerides and Cardiovascular Disease” (2011) and served as consultant for the National Library of Medicine (genetic HDL deficiency states) and USPS (Heart Health Stamp). In addition to serving on the AHA Nutrition Committee, Dr. Miller is co-chair of the AHA Clinical Lipidology Committee, co-chair of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention and member of the ACC Preventive Cardiology Nutrition Workgroup. He also serves on grant review committees for NHLBI and is a Trustee for the AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation that awards grants for innovative community based projects throughout the United States.
Dr. Miller earned an MD at Rutgers Medical School, followed by a medical residency at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and fellowship training in lipoprotein metabolism and cardiovascular diseases at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is the co-author of 3 books, “The Practice of Coronary Disease Prevention” (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 1996), “The AMA Guide to Preventing and Treating Heart Disease” (Wiley, 2008) and “Heal Your Heart, The Positive Emotions Prescription to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” (Rodale, 2014).

Dr. Morck, Vice President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for Nestlé Corporate Affairs in Washington, DC, coordinates activities related to these two functions across seven Nestlé companies operating in the USA (Nestlé USA, Nestlé Nutrition, Nestlé Purina PetCare, Nestlé Waters North America, Nestlé Health Science, Nestlé Professional, and Nespresso), and with Nestlé S.A business, technical and R&D centers in Switzerland.
With extensive and broad-based nutritional science experience, Dr. Morck’s career includes clinical research and patient care at a VA Medical Center and teaching at its associated medical school faculty. At the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) he directed nutrition-related working groups comprised of experts from academia, industry, and government, and served as secretariat for USAID-funded international consultative groups addressing global vitamin A deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. He has provided senior leadership to several leading nutrition companies (Mead Johnson, The Dannon Company, Abbott Nutrition, and Nestlé) as well as consulting and start-ups (MenuDirect, DSM Personalized Nutrition).
Expertise includes basic and clinical research, global scientific affairs, product development and I&R Pipeline management, regulatory & public affairs, behavioral approaches to manage obesity, and application of technology to nutritional solutions. He received a BS in animal science from Penn State University, followed by MS and PhD degrees from Cornell University in nutrition, with minors in biochemistry and physiology.
