A national initiative to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in 5 years.
Million Hearts® 2022 is a national initiative co-led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in 5 years. The initiative focuses partner actions on a small set of priorities selected for their impact on heart disease, stroke, and related conditions.
Million Hearts® Monthly Messaging
A monthly messaging campaign to improve effective dissemination and promotion of key cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention messages, evidence-based practices and resources that prevent and control heart disease, stroke and related risk factors – all of which work to help build national, state and local strategies to support CVD prevention and management.
Advancing Million Hearts®
Advancing Million Hearts® is a training program with AHA Affiliate staff and cardiovascular public health coalitions, including state and local health departments, that aims to further champion the Million Hearts® initiative and establish and align priorities on heart disease and stroke prevention.
2018 Hypertension Control Challenge
Million Hearts® recognized 24 health care professionals, practices, and systems as 2017 Hypertension Control Champions.

Million Hearts® microsite maintains the most up-to-date Million Hearts® tools and resources for clinicians.
2019 Hypertension Control Challenge
The application period for the 2019 Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Challenge has ended. Many clinicians, practices, and health systems submitted applications for the 2019 Challenge. These individuals and organizations have prioritized hypertension control, helping their patients live free of heart attacks and strokes and adding to the Million Hearts® aim of at least 1 million fewer cardiovascular events by 2022.
The 2019 Hypertension Control Champions will be announced in the fall.
