Sisters with Heart

The American Heart Association and Sisters on the Mic have come together through Sisters with Heart, a heartfelt collaboration using the power of voice to uplift wellness, healing, and hope. Together, we’re raising awareness about the health conditions that touch our communities and working side by side to make health education more accessible—so that everyone, everywhere, has the opportunity to live a longer, fuller life.

What is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)?

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is most often caused by abnormal genes in the heart muscle. These genes cause the walls of the heart chamber (left ventricle) to become thicker than normal.

The thickened walls may become stiff, and this can reduce the amount of blood taken in and pumped out to the body with each heartbeat. Watch the full conversation with host, Shari Nycole.
