A series of Research Receptions is providing researchers the opportunity to share their work with donors whose generous gifts are advancing our mission. Five receptions have been held to date with attendees gaining insights into cardiovascular science and meeting face-to-face with researchers funded by the American Heart Association.
The Southern Arizona Research Reception in Tucson was highlighted by a check presentation representing the $1.5 million dollars in research funded by the American Heart Association over the past few years at the University of Arizona. Local board member Robert Poston, M.D., was instrumental in planning the event.
Our research volunteers have also assisted division staff in presenting Research Receptions in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento. The Utah division will host a reception in Salt Lake City on Jan. 16 and the San Diego division has set its event for Feb. 6.
Stephen Zieniewicz, executive director of the University of Washington Medical Center, was the featured speaker at the Seattle reception. Henry Sucov, Ph.D., Ching-Ling (Ellen) Lien, Ph.D., and Yibin Wang, Ph.D., were instrumental in planning the event held at Saban Research Institute at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. Tim Maurice, chief financial officer at UC Davis Health System and incoming local board chair, Fredric Gorin, M.D., Ph.D., recruited researchers and spoke at the Sacramento reception. Lillian Khor, M.B.BCH, B.A.O, is assisting with the upcoming program at the University of Utah - School of Medicine.
Thanks to our volunteers who assist in making this special connection between researchers and donors – this link is vital in advancing our lifesaving mission.
