Collaboration targets uncontrolled hypertension
The AHA is working with Affinia Healthcare and the St. Louis Metro Market to combat the high rate of uncontrolled high blood pressure in the city and county of St. Louis.
Of the nearly 315,000 adults in the area told they have high blood pressure, almost 50% don’t have it under control.
Using its Check. Change. Control. blood pressure program, the AHA is increasing awareness about the effects of high blood pressure and how to get St. Louisans to control it through self-monitoring.
The St. Louis Metro Market, a mobile grocery store created in a refurbished city bus, serves patients at Affinia Healthcare locations. Patients enrolled in the high blood pressure program received a food RX and voucher to use in the market.
Since AHA funding for the food RX program ended in 2019, the AHA is seeking corporate and foundation partners to continue and expand it at Affinia and other local clinics.
