Meet the leaders who excel at value creation
Heather Wilder, PhD
Managing Director
Heather Underwood Wilder, PhD, is a serial entrepreneur and health care executive with a proven track record of driving groundbreaking solutions from concept to market, securing FDA approvals and breakthrough device designation and scaling startups to successful outcomes. As the head of Studio Red, Heather helps accelerate the commercialization of early-stage cardiovascular and brain health ideas and startups.
Wilder also served as an associate professor at the University of Colorado Denver where she co-founded “Inworks” — an interdisciplinary institute for human-centered design, innovation and prototyping. She has also served as a biodesign consultant with SparkMed Advisors and as the owner and founder of Mountain Medtech Consulting.
Her consulting work has largely focused on developing and validating medical and health tech products, performing regulatory and reimbursement pathway analyses, IP landscapes, market sizing and segmentation analyses and developing commercial strategies for medical device and health technology companies. This included pitch deck development, fundraising strategy, investor introductions and ongoing support.
Wilder holds a doctorate from the University of Colorado Boulder and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Washington. She is an alumna of Stanford Biodesign, MedTech Innovator and the Ferolyn Fellowship through the Fogarty Institute of Innovation.
Dhrooti Vyas, MBA
Ventures Lead
Dhrooti Vyas is a health care entrepreneur and venture builder. She most recently co-founded Crosswalk Health, a value-based care enablement company that partners with EMS agencies to navigate 911 callers to the right level of care, reducing unnecessary ED transport and improving outcomes for high-risk patients.
Vyas holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is passionate about leveraging pioneering care models to improve care for all.
Anne Cox
Ventures Lead
As ventures lead at Studio Red, Anne Cox collaborates with entrepreneurs and clinicians in cardiovascular and brain health to usher new technologies from concept to commercialization through the Studio's project incubation process. She leverages her expertise in R&D, strategy, project management and operations — spanning medical devices, diagnostics and health technology program development — to shape product design, streamline development and position ventures for market success.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical and biological engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder with a certificate in public health and serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the University of Colorado Boulder Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Linda Yu, PhD
Business Development Director
Linda Yu, PhD, serves as business development director of Studio Red, where she leads initiatives that advance the organization’s impact-focused and financial goals. A scientist by training, Yu has built a distinguished career on the business side of science as an accomplished business development leader across pharmaceutical, biotech and diagnostic companies.
Yu also worked in technology transfer at the University of California, San Francisco, where she managed and oversaw the patenting and out-licensing of a broad range of intellectual property assets.
She holds a doctorate in biological sciences from Columbia University as well as a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry/chemistry and in sociology from the University of California, San Diego.
Alexa Cheng, MHA
Investment Associate
Alexa Cheng is committed to improving health care access through innovation and community-driven initiatives. As an investment associate at Studio Red, she manages deal flow, performs diligence on emerging companies and supports internal thesis development to guide Studio investment strategy. Cheng brings experience in digital health venture, health care consulting and startup strategy, focused on improving access to care.
Cheng also worked in health care consulting at Eversana, advising life sciences clients on growth and market entry and contributed to health care market analysis and technology advancement efforts at Columbia Technology Ventures. She also founded two nonprofit initiatives supporting health care workers and underserved communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She holds a master’s degree from Columbia University, where she received the Public Health Award.
Lisa Suennen
Managing Partner, American Heart Association Ventures
Lisa Suennen has spent over 35 years in healthcare as venture capitalist, entrepreneur, operating executive, and strategy consultant.
Lisa serves as Managing Partner of American Heart Association Ventures, a platform of four venture funds focused on improving outcomes in cardiovascular and brain health. Those funds include Go Red for Women Venture Fund, Cardeation Capital, the Social Impact Funds and Studio Red.
Previously, Lisa was a key management team member at Merit Behavioral Care (fka American Biodyne). Lisa held key leadership roles, including Senior Vice President of Marketing & Sales and General Manager of multiple divisions. Lisa was an integral player in the company’s growth as it provided broad based care and care management for patients with behavioral health challenges and substance use disorders. The company grew from early-stage startup to one with over $800M in revenue, had a successful IPO and was ultimately acquired by Magellan Health. Lisa was also founding CEO of CSweetener, a company focused on matching mentors with rising female healthcare leaders (sold to HLTH Foundation).
Lisa chairs the International Investment Committee of the Australian ANDHealth Digital Health Fund, sits on the Investment Committee of Manatt Venture Fund, and is an advisor to Nina Capital. She is a founding member of the Duke Margolis Institute Capital Impact Council, and serves on the HLTH Community women’s advisory group. She is past chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Nasa-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health and serves on the boards and advisory boards of several emerging companies. Lisa is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Health Innovators Fellowship and is on faculty at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. She was recently featured in Forbes 2025 List of the 50 Over 50. Lisa writes the Venture Valkyrie blog and is an internationally recognized author and speaker.
