Research Goes Red

A diverse group of people standing in a circle in a supportive embrace.

Cardiovascular disease, including stroke, continues to be the leading cause of death for people in the United States claiming the lives of our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, neighbors, and loved ones.

Together, we can help save the people we love.

Diseases, including heart and brain diseases, are often expressed differently between women and men, and a disproportionate amount of research has been done in men. We aim to change this.

  • Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for new mothers in the United States.
  • Women who reach menopause before age 45 have a significantly higher risk of heart disease.
  • Women are more likely to have a stroke than men and less likely to receive recommended stoke care.

Research Goes Red (RGR) is a health research program funded by the American Heart Association (AHA), with the goal of encouraging women and men to contribute to health research. In the past, clinical studies have not been adequately inclusive of women or analyzed women-specific heart and brain health data. A greater focus on women’s heart and brain health is critical to advancing optimal treatment for these diseases in both women and men in the United States.

If you join this research program, we will gather data about you. We will combine it with data from other people who join. The purpose of this research is to find new ways to treat, beat, and prevent heart and brain disease in women. This also includes better understanding how cardiovascular disease impacts women and men differently.

By joining Research Goes Red, you will be able to:

  • Contribute data about your health experience, medical history and points of view through surveys, clinical research, and more.
  • Join additional studies if you wish.
