Colleen  Spees

Dr. Colleen Spees is a Professor in the Division of Medical Dietetics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. In addition, she holds academic appointments at the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) and the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE). Dr. Spees’ primary focus of research involves developing, implementing, and testing tailored biobehavioral food is medicine interventions aimed at providing optimal nutrition to prevent and treat diet-sensitive chronic diseases. In this capacity, she seeks to improve access to culturally appropriate, health-promoting, and functional foods by impacting food availability, food access, food quality, and food use.

Dr. Spees is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and recipient of the Distinguished Practice Award, Distinguished Service Award, Award for Excellence in Oncology Nutrition Research, and author of the Wardlaw Contemporary Nutrition textbooks. She is also an author and contributor to American Heart Association’s scientific statements and advisories, American Cancer Society’s evidence-based diet and physical activity guidelines, ASPEN’s malnutrition clinical guidelines, and the Academy’s positions papers on nutritional genomics and food insecurity.
