High School Heart Club Grants

The American Heart Association is calling on high school Heart Clubs across the country to step up and help build a Nation of Lifesavers™ — a movement to double survival rates from cardiac arrest by 2030.

Through this new grant opportunity, high school Heart Clubs can design and lead impactful programs that raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and CPR, train more lifesavers and advocate for safer, more prepared schools.

High School Heart Club Grant Opportunity

Emergencies don’t wait. When a life is on the line, it could take more than one person to make the difference. It takes classmates who know what to do. It takes a school that’s prepared. It takes individuals with the courage to act.

Grant Details:

Each selected high school Heart Club may receive a combination of resources and funding totaling $4,500 to create a safer school environment through activities such as:

  • Assisting with the development of a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) for the school.
  • Providing card-credentialed CPR First Aid AED training.
  • Hosting and promoting Nation of Lifesavers™ events that spread awareness and train more students and community members in Hands-Only CPR.
  • Advocating for policies that expand access to CPR and AED training in schools and communities.

All registered Heart Clubs with a faculty advisor are encouraged to apply. No prior CPR credentialing is required — recipients will receive full support and guidance from the American Heart Association.

Program Goals:

Through this high school grant opportunity, Heart Clubs will:

  • Raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and the importance of CPR.
  • Equip students, staff and community members with lifesaving Hands-Only CPR and AED skills.
  • Advocate for school and state-level policies that expand access to CPR and AED training.
  • Empower young leaders to strengthen the chain of survival and build a culture of preparedness.

Application & Eligibility:

  • Each application should clearly outline the club’s vision, impact, need and experience.
  • Must be a registered American Heart Association Heart Club with a faculty advisor.
  • Strong preference for clubs able to demonstrate that they are recognized as an official student organization at their school
  • Must submit your school or district’s W-9 form and a letter of support from your school administration

Program Expectations:

Each Heart Club will design and lead a Nation of Lifesavers™ program that includes three main elements:

Nation of Lifesavers™ Event(s)

  • Plan and host one or more events that bring Hands-Only CPR education and preparedness to life across your school community. Activities may include:
    • Hands-Only CPR demonstrations
    • Educational materials (posters, flyers, banners, etc.)
    • Tables or displays at health fairs, athletic events or school assemblies

Advocacy

  • Champion CPR awareness and emergency preparedness in your community by:
    • Joining and promoting the American Heart Association Heart Powered Network to stay connected on advocacy actions.
    • Connecting with your Heart Association Grassroots Manager to learn about the HEARTS Act and local CPR policy efforts.

Resources

  • Ensure students and community members receive hands-on CPR experience by including at least one of the following:
    • CPR card credentialing opportunities for students and staff.
    • Hands-Only CPR demonstrations and awareness events.
    • A Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) tailored for your school.
  • To support your event(s), your proposal must include at least one CPR in Schools® with First Aid Training Kit or a CERP Services Package.
