Get With the Guidelines® Quality Research Publications | American Heart Association

The American Heart Association’s® (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) is a hospital-based Quality Improvement program designed to close the treatment gaps in cardiovascular and stroke care. Data from these programs create a vast registry for advancing scientific research with hundreds of publications to date.

The Future of Heart and Stroke Treatment Starts Here

The American Heart Association®/American Stroke Association® (AHA/ASA) collects millions of patient records in our Quality Programs, creating vast national level databases for advancing scientific research. Data is collected at the patient level in hospitals participating in AHA/ASA Quality programs. Patients entered in the database are from U.S. hospitals only. Data is patient- and hospital-de-identified at an aggregate level. Our quality programs include Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) In-Patient and Mission: Lifeline. A key component of these continuous quality improvement programs is the collection of data that participating hospitals can use for their own quality improvement efforts - See Hospital Level Research. There is also the opportunity for some scientific research from our National Level Database.

The Association also offers a cloud-based research data analysis platform with secure, private workspaces equipped with tools for data analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The Precision Medicine Platform centralized data for teams to easily and quickly search, analyze, and securely share harmonized data. Researchers have the option to use the Precision Medicine Platform to conduct their own investigator-led data analysis of our quality improvement program data.

Get With The Guidelines®

Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) is a hospital-based quality improvement program designed to close the treatment gap in cardiovascular disease, stroke, and resuscitation. It includes modules in coronary artery disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke and resuscitation. Each program provides physicians and healthcare providers with materials, information and tools based on relevant evidence-based guidelines. The program provides hospitals with a registry tool, which is an online, interactive assessment and reporting system. The tool can meet your data submission requirements while tracking and reporting on your hospital's performance at delivering guidelines-based treatment.

Mission: Lifeline®

Mission: Lifeline (M:L) is a coordinated, proactive system of care that turns first responders, hospitals and other healthcare providers into a team that uses proven guidelines and best practices to treat patients suffering from both types of myocardial infarctions - STEMI and NSTE-ACS (non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome); sudden cardiac arrest; and now, stroke. M:L includes but is not limited to, pre-hospital data review, interfacility transfer, activation and hospital bypass protocols, emergency department, cardiac catheterization laboratory activities, Mortality and Outcomes.
