H. Newton Williams

Newt Williams was raised in Tennessee and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering. Newt was in the U.S. Army from 1968-71 and his service included assignments in Panama as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer and in Vietnam as a Company Commander. He completed his military service in 1971 having attained the rank of Captain.

During his career with Celanese Corporation, Newt served in a number of positions worldwide, living in South Carolina, North Carolina, Belgium, New Jersey, Canada, Texas and Virginia. He completed his career as Vice President of State and Federal Government Affairs in Washington, D.C. with the additional responsibilities of directing efforts to resolve a multi-billion dollar product liability issue.

After retiring in 2003, Newt moved to Durham, N.C. and was involved in many community activities. Since returning to Nashville, he has volunteered at Vanderbilt University, the American Heart Association and Ten Thousand Villages. Newt recently served on the American Heart Association Greater Southeast Affiliate Board of Directors as the Advocacy Chair. Newt enjoys golf, reading, travel, fitness activities and volunteer opportunities.
