cardiac catheterization
Cardiac catheterization is way of examining the inside of the heart. A thin tube called a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel (vein or artery) and threaded into the heart and into the coronary arteries. During cardiac catheterization, doctors can perform an angioplasty and/or insert a stent, which is a tube-like device that props open a previously blocked artery. Cardiac catheterization is used in procedures such as coronary arteriography (also known as angiography) and angioplasty.
