What We Do in North Dakota2

OUR MISSION
Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
The American Heart Association is working to improve the cardiovascular health of ALL Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20% by the year 2020.

Fewer people are dying from heart disease and stroke, but improving the cardiovascular health of ALL Americans has had mixed results - obesity among adults, and physical activity and cholesterol for kids.

Our My Heart. My Life.TM prevention platform includes:

  • Teaching Gardens to encourage school children to eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Cooking Classes to help parents prepare healthy meals for their families
  • Walking Clubs and Walking Paths to promote exercise and safe places to walk
  • Fit-Friendly Worksite Program to recognize employee wellness initiatives
  • Heart Walks to celebrate healthy lifestyles and fund research and health initiatives
  • Reducing sodium and sugar-sweetened beverages as personal choices and default options in the community.

Ryan Rademacher ND

Ryan Rademacher, a Wheatland-area farmer, was saved because he called 9-1-1 at the first sign of a heart attack.

His call activated a rapid, coordinated response system that took just 38 minutes to open his blocked artery in a hospital 60 miles away.

He now urges everyone to "Dial 9-1-1."
