Latinos meet 5 of American Heart Association Life's Simple 7 goals
  • Updated:Nov 6,2012

SIMPLE SCIENCE LOGO-TEXT

Latinos fare better than other Americans on five out of seven American Heart Association Life’s Simple 7 heart-healthy goals.

In a poll of nearly 16,000 Latino adults, they had higher rates of ideal blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, physical activity and nonsmoking compared to national averages. Nonsmoking was the most commonly achieved goal, with 76 percent saying they’ve either quit or never smoked.

But like most Americans, the biggest challenges facing Latinos are maintaining a heart-healthy diet and weight. Only 2 percent consistently eat a healthy diet and less than 25 percent reported an ideal body weight — below the 32 percent national rate.
