  • Updated:Mon, 9 Apr 2012 12:56:00 PM
Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation Recognition
Recognition for Your Achievements
Hospitals teams that participate actively and consistently in Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation will get more than a pat on the back. They will be publicly recognized, helping hospitals hone a competitive edge in the marketplace by providing patients and stakeholders with tangible evidence of their commitment to quality care.

Recognition opportunities will include acknowledgement by name of award-winning hospitals at national recognition events. Award-winning hospitals will also be provided with customizable marketing materials they can use to publicize their achievements locally.

Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation currently offers three levels of hospital recognition:
  1. Participating Get With The Guidelines
  2. Bronze Achievement Award
  3. Silver Achievement Award
Participating Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation
The first level of recognition designates awardees as an official Participating Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation Hospital.  This level encourages program participation and entry of baseline data into the Patient Management ToolTM*. View the Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation Participating Hospital application and award permission form

Recognition Awards

The awards recognize hospitals that demonstrate the indicated compliance in each of the five Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation Recognition Measures. The Bronze recognizes performance of 90 consecutive days within a calendar quarter.   The Silver recognizes performance of 1 calendar year (January 1st to December 31st).
The Recognition Measures are embedded in the Patient Management Tool and require 85% compliance.

The measures requiring 85% compliance are:
Adult or Pediatric
  • CPA: Time to first chest compressions <= 1 min in adult or pediatric patients and newborn/neonates >= 10 min old: Percent of events in adult or pediatric patients where time to first chest compressions <= 1 minute of event recognition.
  • CPA: Device confirmation of correct endotracheal tube placement: Percent of adult or pediatric events with an endotracheal tube placement which was confirmed to be correct.
  • CPA: Time to first shock <= 2 min for VF/pulseless VT first documented rhythm: Percent of events in adult or pediatric patients with VF/pulseless VT first documented rhythm in whom time to first shock <= 2 minutes of event recognition.
  • CPA: Percent pulseless cardiac events monitored or witnessed: Percent of events in adult or Pediatric patients who were monitored or witnessed at the time of arrest.
Newborn/Neonate
  • CPA: Time to first chest compressions <= 1 min in adult and pediatric patients and newborn/neonates >= 10 min old: Percent of events in newborn/neonates >= 10 minutes old where time to first chest compressions <= 1 minute of event recognition.
  • CPA: Time to first chest compressions <= 2 min for newborn/neonates < 10 min old: Percent of events in newborn/ neonates < 10 minutes old with time to first chest compressions <= 2 minutes of event recognition.
  • CPA: Time to invasive airway <= 2 min in newborn/neonates from onset of cardiac event: Percent of newborn/neonatal events with an invasive airway inserted within 2 minutes of event recognition.
  • CPA: Device confirmation of correct endotracheal tube placement: Percent of events with an endotracheal tube placement which was confirmed to be correct
To obtain an Achievement Award, a hospital must:
  • Achieve Participating Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation Hospital status.
  • Demonstrate the designated compliance in all the Recognition Measures for all eligible patients within the applicable patient population (adult, pediatric or newborn/neonate). Individual Bronze and Silver awards will be awarded for each eligible patient population within a hospital. This must be documented in a written application, signed by a hospital representative and include the names of the hospital staff who collected the data.
  • Application templates are available for the Bronze and  Silver  Award.
  • Submit the application to the vice president or senior director of Quality Improvement Initiatives.

Please note:
  • Baseline data is not to be included in the demonstrated period of adherence.
  • Recognition criteria are subject to change based on program enhancements.
These applications will likely be the basis for poster or oral best practice presentations at local, regional or national Get With The Guidelines events, including CME/CE/CPHQ activities, celebrations and other appropriate meetings.

The Recognition Measures are used to evaluate and recognize success. These measures are consistent with those measures used by several organizations. However, all of the measures in GWTG are important in the care of patients.
