Thank you for helping kids with special hearts! When you do an American Heart Association event, you are helping kids with special hearts kids like these!
Vivian, age 8
Vivian was born with a Heart Condition called Truncus Arteriosus. She had surgery at 2 weeks old and then again when she was 2 years old. Vivian is able to dance and jump rope and play with her friends now thanks to the kids who raise donations
for the American Heart Association.
Cassandra, age 15
Cassandra had a heart transplant at the age of 12 years old after collapsing during a basketball game. Her heart condition was undetected before that but she was able to return to playing the game she loves exactly one year later.
Adelynn, age 6
"I was born with an atrial septal defect (ASD). A cardiologist fixed my heart using cardiac catheterization. I have some restrictions, but not many and very soon I will be able to do all activities again. Now my heart is working normally and
I can live a long healthy life. I hope to be either a nurse or a doctor."
Kyle, age 11
"I was born with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome-the right side of my heart was smaller than the left side. I had 2 cardiac catheterizations.
When I was 9, I went to the cardiologist. He said I had an anomalous right coronary artery defect-my coronary artery was being pinched behind my aorta. At any time I could go into cardiac arrest so I was scheduled for open heart surgery. Now I play
basketball, lacrosse and like to duck hunt and deer hunt."
Arden, age 7
"I am special because I have half a heart. I was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. My mom says that I have had four open heart surgeries. Now I go to the doctor for check-ups to make sure everything is good with my heart. I take medicines
every day to help my heart. I also eat lots of fruits and vegetables to make me strong and healthy."
Jhett, age 7
"At 10 months old I received a heart transplant. In 2012 I was diagnosed with Transplant Coronary Artery Disease and have been waiting for my second heart transplant.
I am currently taking 7 medicines, eating healthier and staying as active as my doctors will allow."
Aiden, age 10
"I was born with 3 holes in my heart. Now I just need to go to my cardiologist once a year to be checked. Other than that I am just a regular kid. I like to ride my bike to keep my heart healthy. I hope that all of the other kids who have sick
hearts get better like me."
Brooks, age 10
"At 10 days old, I started having difficulty breathing and was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome with a coarctation of the aorta. I had my last surgery at 2 1/2 years old. I also had several catherizations and my mom had to give
me blood-thinner shots in my legs. I also had to take lots of medicines and went to the doctor every few weeks.
Today, I am a normal 10 year old Boy Scout and I love to camp. Most people do not realize that I have a heart problem until they see my scar."
Ariana (age 9) & Briella (age 6 months)
"When I found out my sister was going to be born with a heart defect, I was very worried. Briella spent her first 77 days in the hospital. She came home with a beautiful scar we call her "special zipper." I help my mom and dad take
care of her and help with her medicines. My sister still needs a few more surgeries. She has tetralogy of fallot, DORV, PS, ASD, VSD, & PAPVR. My mom showed me diagrams to understand my sister’s special heart. I am proud of my sister
and proud I get to help make a difference."
