Sugary Beverage Tax Passes

Thank you to Cook County Board of Commissioners who voted to pass a one-penny-per-ounce sugary beverage tax on November 10. Despite strong and well funded opposition, Cook County became the largest county in the nation to pass a tax of its kind. The American Heart Association believes this will reduce consumption and lead to a decline in chronic diseases linked to sugary drinks.

This is a major victory for the health of Cook County's most vulnerable communities.

AHA recommends using these funds to bolster the county's healthcare system, paying for essential services and implementing prevention programs for those most impacted by these harmful drinks.

We will continue to work toward improving the health and well-being of our communities.
