Plan to join us at  the Northeast Indiana Heart Ball on Friday, April 19th at the Fort Wayne Country Club.

Phil Bundy, Senior Vice President of First Federal Bank, and his wife, Elaine, will welcome guests for an evening of Jazz Music by the Dana Christy Trio and Chuck Surack's band, Prime Time.

The Heart Ball supports the American Heart Association's efforts for the critical issue of Children's Heart Health.  This initiative supports congenital heart research and combats the alarming increase in childhood obesity by educating local children about the importance of nutrition and exercise.

Our evening celebrates: our work and mission; our donors and volunteers; and - most importantly - the lives saved and improved because of everyone's efforts.

In the past five years, 2008-2012, the American Heart Association has funded 77 research awards with a cost of $8.7 million at six Indiana institutions.  This investment in research nationwide has yielded breakthroughs such as the artificial heart valve; CPR; implantable pacemakers; bypass surgery; drug-coated stents; heart defect repair; and blood pressure, cholesterol and clot-busting drugs.

If you have any questions about the 2013 Northeast Indiana Heart Ball, please contact  Emily Hayes, (260) 433-2110.  We are grateful to all of our sponsors, volunteers, attendees and auction item donors.

1940- Present

1948
Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, 1937 Nobel Prize recipient in Physiology or Medicine, receives the first AHA-supported research grant. The $25,000 grant covers equipment and staff salaries. Szent-Gyorgyi receives a second grant (for $10,000) in 1949. Both grants are awarded to enable him to do fundamental studies on muscle energetics.

With national AHA support, Dr. Alfred Farah examines the influence of sulfahydryl compounds as diuretics. The next year, Dr. William Schwartz, also receiving national funding, finds sulfanilamide can act as a diuretic. Diuretics help treat congestive heart failure and high blood pressure.
