When Vince was first born, his parents had no idea that he needed heart surgery until the doctor came in and told them a few hours later.

Vince was born with chambers in his heart that weren’t fully formed, and he needed a procedure called a ‘Complete A/V Canal.’

Due to complications with Vince’s heart rate, his surgery had to wait until he was two months old. The surgeon used Gore-tex® to create the chambers for Vince’s heart.

Vince also has Down Syndrome, which is a third copy of the 21st chromosome.  Heart defects like A/V Canal are common in individuals with Down Syndrome.”
