My name is Shelby and I am two years old.
Doctors discovered my heart defect a couple of weeks before I was born, although they were not able to diagnose exactly what was wrong at the time.
I was born with a complex set of Congenital Heart Defects that included Tetralogy of Fallot, Hypoplastic Right Ventricle, Straddling Tricuspid Valve, multiple Ventricular Septal Defects, and Sub-Pulmonary Stenosis. I was also born with a condition known as Goldenhar Syndrome, which caused me to be missing part of my ear, and also facial weakness on my left side.
When I was 6 months old, I had my first surgery. The doctors performed a Bidirectional Glenn Procedure and banding of my pulmonary artery. After I turned 2, I had another surgery known as a Fontan Procedure. Both of these surgeries were important to help my heart function the way it should.
Today, I am a happy toddler. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing with my brother, and reading books. I’m glad I am able to do these things now that I have received such special care for my heart.RETURN TO MEET KIDS WITH HEART
