Sela’s parents were shocked to learn after she was born that she needed to have heart surgery, just like her big brother Vince.

Sela’s heart defect was vastly different though. Her defect is called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA.) This means that the arteries at the top of her heart were switched.

Sela was taken by ambulance to Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn and had a procedure called ‘Arterial Switch’ when she was just five days old.

It’s a good thing her Mom & Dad already knew of a good heart surgeon!”.
