My name is Cody. I am 11 years old and I am a 6th grader. I live in a small town called Cantrall, Illinois.
I have a sister, Josie, who is 8 years old - my parents adopted her two years ago from the Ukraine. I also have a brother named Tristan who is 6.
I am an avid soccer player, and I love dodge ball. My soccer friends call me “cdzfd”.
I always helped raise money for Jump Rope and Hoops For Heart. But, this year my PE teacher asked if she could use my story in her introduction to our Hoops For Heart campaign. At first, I thought it would be embarrassing. Now, I know it is okay because I am an example of how research money can save a life. It saved mine!
Now I can do anything any other sixth grader can do. I am a very active kid.
My heart use to be different than other kids’ hearts because it would beat too fast at random times. I never knew when it would happen.
The doctors told my parents they could give me medicine to make me feel better, but there was no cure at this time. The doctors told my parents that researchers were close to finding a technique to be used in surgery, but we had to be patient and wait. I didn’t think I would ever get better! But, research did find an answer - I am 100% better! I wish for kids with sick hearts to get better, just like I did!!!
