In Wisconsin during the past five years (2009-2013) the American Heart Association funded almost $14 million in new research:

  • 8 new research studies at the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, Milwaukee at a cost of $1,512,796
  • 4 new research studies at Marquette University, Milwaukee at a cost of $278,772
  • 30 new research studies at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee at a cost of $3,764,064
  • 7 new research studies at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee at a cost of $857,544
  • 77 new research studies at University of Wisconsin, Madison at a cost of $7,567,891

Nationwide, we invest almost $128.5 million a year ($3.5 billion since 1949) in heart and stroke research that has led to recent breakthroughs such as clot-busting drugs and drug-eluting stents. Healthcare providers learn about medical advances and new treatment guidelines though our journals, conferences and online courses.

In our 11-state Midwest Affiliate we currently are supporting 397 multi-year studies at a cost of $57,291,581.
