In January 2005, during my 10th NBA season, I decided to buy additional life insurance for my family.

But after undergoing an echocardiogram, I was rejected for the policy.

I played the remainder of the season, which I later learned was very dangerous.

When I went to the Mayo Clinic for an overall heart checkup, I was shocked to learn that I had an aneurism of the aorta, a lifethreatening condition.
