Retailer La Curacao has supported Juntos Contra El Derrame Cerebral or Together Against Stroke since the campaign began four years ago. During American Stroke Month in May, La Curacao again conducted a paper heart sales fund-raising campaign and hosted stroke awareness events at its stores in Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire region in Southern California and also in Phoenix, AZ.

American Heart Association/American Stroke Association volunteers who assist with our Health Equity outreach programs were key in organizing the La Curacao events. They manned informational booths at all locations and coordinated the participation of health educators and stroke survivors.
The Phoenix event, pictured at right, shows Zumba fitness fun behind blood pressure screenings conducted by local members of The National Association of Hispanic Nurses. Zumba was featured in each location with shoppers enthusiastically joining the action.
