In Michigan during the past five years (2012-2016) the American Heart Association funded more than $17 million in new research:

  • 14 studies at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit at a cost of $2,783,224
  • 11 studies at Michigan State University, East Lansing at a cost of $1,310,306
  • 4 studies at Michigan Technological University, Houghton at a cost of $182,000
  • 2 studies at Oakland University, Rochester, at a cost of $8,000
  • 105 studies at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor at a cost of $11,393,464
  • 15 studies at Wayne State University, Detroit at a cost of $1,433,766
  • 1 study at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo: $26,000
Nationwide, we invest almost $145 million a year ($3.7 billion since 1949) in heart and stroke research that has led to recent breakthroughs such as clot-busting drugs and drug-eluting stents. Healthcare providers learn about medical advances and new treatment guidelines though our journals, conferences and online courses.

In our 11-state Midwest Affiliate we currently are supporting 402 multi-year studies at a cost of $70,327,574.
