  • 11 studies at Michigan State University, East Lansing at a cost of $918,540
  • 4 studies at Michigan Technological University, Houghton at a cost of $720,000
  • 109 studies at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor at a cost of $11,852,859

Nationwide, we invest almost $145 million a year ($3.7 billion since 1949) in heart and stroke research that has led to recent breakthroughs such as clot-busting drugs and drug-eluting stents. Healthcare providers learn about medical advances and new treatment guidelines though our journals, conferences and online courses.

In our 11-state Midwest Affiliate we currently are supporting 405 multi-year studies at a cost of $63,864,048

Stroke has dropped to No. 5 as a leading cause of death! The statistics cover deaths reported in 2013.

Heart disease is still the No. 1 cause of death.  Cancer, chronic lower respiratory diseases, unintentional injuries and stroke follow.

Despite the positive statistic, people are having more strokes and risk factors for stroke remain too high.

Speed of treatment is crucial to save lives and prevent disability from stroke.
