American Heart Association Recognizes Union Bank as the 2013 Top National Heart Walk Team

(SAN DIEGO) (April 9, 2014) – The American Heart Association’s (AHA) longtime supporter,Union Bank, N.A, has been named the 2013 Top National Heart Walk Team, making it the third time the bank has earned this distinction. Union Bank was also the Top National Heart Walk Team in 2012 and 2010. Bank employees, family, friends and customers collectively raised more than $580,000 during the 2013 Heart Walk campaign.

Union Bank has supported the AHA’s mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, for nearly 30 years and is currently a regional sponsor of the AHA’s My Heart. My Life. healthy living initiative.

“Union Bank has a remarkable and far-reaching impact on our lifesaving work,” said American Heart Association Western States Affiliate Executive Vice President Kathy Rogers. “The funds that they raise support our cardiovascular research efforts, community education outreach and patient care improvement initiatives that save and improve lives every day. They are also empowering people to live heart-healthy through their education outreach to employees, customers and the communities they serve."

Over the last six years alone, Union Bank and its employees have donated more than $4 million in support of the AHA’s critical research, education and prevention programs.

Its support has expanded to grassroots community outreach, with Union Bank hosting health and wellness expos in locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Last year, the health and wellness expos provided more than 1,400 complimentary blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and BMI (body mass index) screenings to nearly 700 individuals in underserved communities.

Union Bank also has a strong employee volunteer involvement with the AHA. Many of its executives serve on leadership committees and thousands of employees take part in many AHA events. In 2013, more than 10,000 employees participated in more than 200 Heart Walks throughout the bank’s service areas.
