In 2010, Congress passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which updated the nutrition standards for school meals and established nutrition standards for other foods sold in schools. Since then:
- Our kids are now eating 16 percent more vegetables and 23 percent more fruit.
- Children who participate in the National School Lunch Program eat greater amounts of healthy foods, get more essential vitamins and minerals, drink fewer sugar-sweetened beverages and have an overall better-quality diet.
