About Get With The Guidelines®-AFIB Program
The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-AFIB program launches on June 15. Learn how to apply the latest treatment guidelines and quality initiatives at our webinar on June 10.
Get With The Guidelines-AFIB will provide healthcare professionals with a quality improvement blueprint for how best to care for atrial fibrillation (AFib) patients, based upon evidence-based guidelines. The program includes a system for collecting valuable data and provides participating hospitals feedback on their performance. Aggregate program data tracks hospital performance against the guidelines and national benchmarks.

A recent survey conducted by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association found that about half of the patients with AFib have not been properly educated about their five-fold increased stroke risk. Along with the new Get With The Guidelines-AFIB program, the association equips healthcare providers with resources to help them educate patients on the condition of AFib and the link to stroke risk.
“Scientifically proven therapies and approaches to treatment exist for patients with atrial fibrillation; however, there remains wide gaps, variations and disparities in the quality of care for people with this common heart rhythm disorder,"  says Lee H. Schwamm, MD, chair of the Get With The Guidelines National Steering Committee and professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. "By improving the care of patients with atrial fibrillation through the Get With The Guidelines-AFIB program, we can save lives and prevent serious complications, such as stroke.”
