An iPhone app that records electrical activity in the heart could help doctors quickly and accurately diagnose atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm that increases risk of stroke.
An iPhone-based electrocardiogram (ECG) application, AliveCor, correctly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in more than 100 patients 95 percent of the time.
Seemingly healthy people with undiagnosed atrial fibrillation are at high risk for stroke. The new app may help doctors accurately screen for the condition, reduce potential complications and prevent stroke.
