The American Heart Association is confident that Mission: Lifeline will make a difference.
While the American Heart Association name is well known and respected across the nation, the organization joins with policymakers to help convert its recommendations into actual regulations.
Through cooperative efforts, Mission: Lifeline will help establish STEMI systems of care across this country. By promoting 12-lead electrocardiograms for every ambulance and related training for emergency medical services (EMS) providers, the time it takes for a STEMI heart attack to be diagnosed and for appropriate treatment to be initiated will decrease. Every moment counts for victims of a complete blockage in their heart. Policymakers and legislators can help ensure they get the care they need when they need it so blood flow can be restored. This timely action not only saves heart muscle, but even more notably, it saves lives.
