When Bethzy was an infant, she was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus, which developed into an enlarged heart. When she was 6 years old, Bethzy had her 5th heart procedure. At that time, the cardiologist at Children’s Hospital in Omaha placed a Duct Occluder in her heart to complete her heart repairs.
Now 9 years old, Bethzy is a happy, energetic young lady who loves to swim, play basketball, keep her room clean and help her dad in the garden. Her favorite pet was a dog, Star, that Bethzy got at her doctor’s suggestion following her last surgery. Star died about a year ago, and Bethzy misses him!
Bethzy has been able to live a normal life, actively participating in Physical Education, sports, and Jump Rope for Heart. She can do anything she wants and thinks that others who have had the same surgery can do the same. She’s going to “reach for the stars!”
