THANK YOU to all of our participating schools, awesome volunteers, and fabulous students who are helping us to reach our Impact Goal to reduce coronary disease, stroke and risk by 25% by the year 2010.
Hoops For Heart is a program that engages middle school students in the physical activity of playing basketball while raising funds to support lifesaving heart and stroke research and education. Students ask friends and family for donations, either in person or online, and receive thank-you gifts based on the dollars they raise. Based on the dollars raised your school will be eligible for gift certificates for free equipment.
The event is conducted in schools by physical education instructors or coaches and can be scheduled whenever it’s most convenient during the school year — during physical education class, lunch or before or after school.
Once you register, you’ll receive everything you need to conduct a successful event:
- Educational kit with heart-health posters, activity ideas and lesson plans
- Coordinator’s Guide with step-by-step instructions
- Complimentary basketball
- Promotional materials
- Thank-you incentive items
- Hands-on training and support from an experienced American Heart Association staff person
Healthy lifestyles can help prevent heart disease and stroke. Eating healthy, nutritious foods, being physically active, staying tobacco-free, and maintaining a healthy blood pressure and weight are all part of a healthy lifestyle.
