Go Red For Women® is the American Heart Association’s national call, for women by women, to take charge of their health and live stronger, healthier lives. Go Red For Women combines style with substance. As a visible reminder to embrace positive health decisions, the Go Red For Women campaign has adopted the red dress as a symbol that our country is losing too many mothers, sisters, wives and friends to heart disease, and to encourage all women to take care of their health.
The central Ohio division of the American Heart Association and Cardinal Health will continue their efforts to promote Go Red For Women with an extended three-year Columbus Goes Red partnership. Columbus Goes Red, will bring the issue of heart disease in women to the forefront as the two organizations work hand-in-hand to partner on strategic events and initiatives.
“Cardinal Health is delighted to continue our partnership as a Columbus Goes Red sponsor in the central Ohio area. The work the American Heart Association is doing to prevent heart disease is not only noteworthy, it is critical,” said George Barrett, chairman and chief executive officer for Cardinal Health. “I am certain that our partnership with the association will drive an increase in awareness and prevention of this No. 1 killer of women.”
While heart disease continues to claim the lives of more women than any other disease – taking the life of almost one woman per minute – it is largely preventable, only if women choose to act.Making the right heart-healthy choices, such as changing eating habits, getting regular exercise and managing cholesterol and blood pressure is proven to save lives. Go Red For Women empowers women to make the right choices.
“Our research shows that nearly 100 percent of individuals who Go Red, make at least one heart-healthy change in their lifestyle,” said Jennifer Scheehle, vice president of the central Ohio American Heart Association. “The Columbus Goes Red partnership with Cardinal Health will provide the opportunity to connect a broad base of women and men with the Go Red For Women movement and will ultimately save lives and create a healthier community.”
