
Jeffrey L. Saver, M.D., who has been at the forefront of stroke research and treatment for some 20 years, was among top honorees at the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association International Stroke Conference in February. Dr. Saver received the prestigious William Feinberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Stroke for his ongoing contributions to clinical science investigation and management of stroke. He is professor of neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles, Geffen School of Medicine and director of the UCLA Stroke Center.
Dr. Saver is known in the Western States Affiliate (WSA) as an exceptional volunteer who has worked tirelessly for over a decade to help develop a true stroke system of care in Los Angeles County. He has devoted immense effort to stroke care beginning with emergency medical services in the field. Dr. Saver is responsible for creating the Los Angeles Pre-Hospital Stroke Screen, which has become a paradigm for other centers across the country. He has also published research noting improved outcomes in hospitals utilizing our Get With The Guidelines-Stroke® module.
He serves on the Western States Affiliate Stroke Task Force and has served as Chair of the California Stroke Work Group, raising the standard of stroke care throughout the state. He was named the WSA’s 2010-2011 Physician of the Year and is a member of the national AHA Stroke Council serving on executive and planning committees and guideline and statement writing groups.
In addition, Dr. Saver has trained more than 20 neurology fellows and created the UCLA Visiting Scholars Program for international vascular neuroscientists to perform clinical research within the UCLA Stroke Center. Dedicated volunteers like Dr. Saver are key in the success of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
