Heart and stroke survivors are an especially powerful group of volunteers who advance our mission by sharing their personal experiences.
Our Phoenix, AZ, division recently honored a special group of these volunteers – young Heart Hero Survivors. They are school-aged cardiology patients who share their experiences at American Heart Association programs in local schools.
LubDub, the local AHA mascot, greeted children and their families at a fun-filled breakfast held at the Halle Heart Children’s Museum. This event provided the first opportunity for these families to get acquainted with each other and share their experiences. Seventeen pediatric survivors ranging from kindergarteners to high school sophomores attended along with 70 family members.
By sharing their stories, Heart Hero Survivors help other students understand the importance of raising funds for heart and stroke research through our Youth Market programs.
Thanks to these young survivors and their family members for the special way they support our mission.
