American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown will speak at a National Press Club Newsmaker press conference in Washington, DC. Brown will discuss the future of cardiovascular disease in the United States.

To prepare for future cardiovascular care needs, the American Heart Association developed methodology to project future costs of care for hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, and all other forms of CVD from 2010 to 2030. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States and is responsible for 17% of national health expenditures.

The findings are part of a policy statement from the American Heart Association urging effective prevention strategies to limit the growing burden of cardiovascular disease. Published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association the policy report is titled, “Collision Course: America’s Baby Boomers and Cardiovascular Disease.
